Biography

it wasn't every day that the silverthorns had a muggle connected to their family tree. amelia white met lionel silverthorn on what could only be described as the most magical of autumn days. when asked to describe how they met, lionel would have once described it as fate, especially when the pair continued to bump into each other.

lionel would then spend the next few months courting amelia until the pair finally eloped.

it wasn't until samwise was born one year later that amelia learned all about the wizarding world. while it came as a surprise, she had always suspected something was up when lionel refused to introduce her to his parents. she stuck by him despite keeping something so big from her, and committed to raising sam so that he would be armed with all the knowledge of a wizard and a muggle, to have the best of both worlds.

all was well, and when sam turned eleven, he received his letter of acceptance to hogwarts. by then, he had already accidentally wreaked havoc by shattering every mirror in their house during a particularly potent tantrum. needless to say, the silverthorns were grateful to get him out of the house.

with sam off at hogwarts, amelia and lionel were now faced with learning to be around each other without their son as a buffer. sam, meanwhile, was sorted into gryffindor, much to the chagrin of lionel, whose family tended to be split between slytherin or ravenclaw, like himself. and while the slytherin half of the family showed clear disdain for this turn of events, lionel accepted his son all the same.

that was, of course, until the day amelia died. sam was off at hogwarts when he found out about his mother's passing. he was only in second year when it happened, and his whole world shattered. there had been rumors of a wizard tied to lionel's past being responsible for her death, but nothing was ever substantiated, and so sam tried his best to go on with his life.

eventually, lionel remarried to a witch named persephone. she was much colder than amelia had ever been, and treated sam like a problem that needed solving rather than trying to show any of the same maternal warmth that he had been used to. sam learned to keep his distance, spending more time with friends during breaks from school than going back home.

maybe it was an act of rebellion at the time, but while most of the other students were making solid plans for after graduation, sam had his eyes on music. he found he had so much he wanted to say, to share with the world, and maybe seeing one little concert by the weird sisters helped cement a real interest in wizard rock. needless to say, his parents were livid when they found out sam's grades were slipping because he was showing more interest in learning to play his guitar than studying for his o.w.ls.

in an effort to steer sam in the right direction, they took away his guitar as punishment, an act which completely broke sam's trust in them. while he did end up getting good marks in the end, he lost any interest in pursuing anything that was suggested to him, even by his teachers. he opted, instead, to travel the world for a couple of years. unbeknownst to him during his travels his parents put in an application to the dmle on his behalf. he was eventually offered a position, one which he was forced to take due to being financially cut off and having no other source of income.

he joined the dmle as a hit wizard in 2012, and while it had first been just a way to make ends meet, it has eventually proven to be exactly what he needed to get his head on straight. several years into the job, rumors of the wizard who might have been responsible for his mother's death began to surface again, and suddenly sam had a renewed interest in his job, this time to become an auror. although nothing had panned out yet, he continues to try and garner respect from those who have been a part of the dmle longer, in hopes that maybe there will be an opening, and just maybe he will be able to snatch it up and get to the bottom of amelia silverthorn's death once and for all.

and if, along the way, he should happen across anything else that might help further his goals, then lucky him, right?
